Rotarians Demolish, Rebuild on CDS Playground Project
Lander Rotarians showed off both their demolition and building skills last Saturday at the Child Development Services (CDS) playground. They demolished an old shelter and sandboxes and replaced them with a large greenhouse and several planters. Plus, the club donated $2,250 to CDS to reimburse it for the cost of materials and a handwashing station. Thanks to Janet Seeley, who led this very worthwhile service project for the Club’s Service Committee, and the Rotarians and non-Rotarians who made it happen on Saturday: Martin Kidner, Janet and Walt Seeley, John Brown, Monica Leininger, Stan Cannon, Eddie Lobatos, Gail Duba, and Lisa Dawson. Almost 100 volunteer hours went into the project. Check out our Website for complete story and photos.
Club Surpasses $9,000 Foundation Giving Goal, But Don’t Quit Now!
With almost three months left in the 2025-26 Rotary year, the club has surpassed
President John Brown’s goal of raising $9,000 for The Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund! With recent donations, we now stand at $9,225, but
John and Foundation Committee Chair Jerry Venters aren’t taking their foot off the gas! The Foundation Committee’s special “2X Recognition Points” campaign will continue to April 30; watch for flyers on your tables at our weekly meetings or contact
Helen Higby, hhigby89@gmail.com, or Jerry Venters, jvrotary6040@yahoo.com. At this point, our per capita giving for the year is $174!
Five Students Submit Scholarship Applications; $500 Secondary Scholarship Added
Five Lander-area seniors have submitted applications for the club’s $2,000 college scholarship this year (increased from $1,500 last year). And at its April meeting, our Service Committee voted to award a second, $500 scholarship to the runner-up applicant.
Kelly Baxter, the scholarship chair, and club members
Stan Cannon, Marit Sawyer, Dominic Weigel, Helen Higby, Shelby Rohrbacher, Jon Tonkowich, and Era Aranow will review the applications and select the top two by May 1. The emphasis is on students who demonstrate a strong commitment to service and apply Rotary’s value of Service Above Self.

Was That Water Really Cold, Monika and Cale?!?
Lander Rotarians Monika Leininger and Cale Case
braved unseasonably warm temperatures (to make
the leap in this year’s Jackalope Jump to raise money
for Wyoming Special Olympics. Rumor has it that the water was almost sauna-like! We contributed $500 again this year. Thank you, Monika and Cale!
Having Fun for the Foundation!!
Want to have some fun and raise some dollars for The Rotary Foundation, too? Maria and Martin Kidner are planning a 1920s themed pool (as in billiards) and whiskey party on May 15 at their home. One person $50, couples $75. Pool players $20 to compete. Oh, did I mention the Wyoming whiskey?!?! Watch for details by email and table flyers later this month.
Time to Begin Thinking About the July 4 Rotary BBQ!
With the July 4 holiday less than three months away, it’s time to begin thinking about how you want to help make the club’s traditional July 4 BBQ – our single largest fundraiser -- a success! Griller? Server? Set-up? Takedown? Cleanup? Let
President-elect and BBQ Committee Chair George Case, carbpumper@gmail.com, 307-349-6808, know what you will be able to do. It takes all of us to pull this off!
